Justin Toland is a British freelance journalist based in Brussels, Belgium. He writes for Fact magazine and runs a monthly club night, Music Muziek Musique. In 1996, he was part of the winning team in the NME/Coca-Cola Student Pop Quiz. In 1998, he wrote a Master’s Thesis on Pop Music and the Heritage Industry, including possibly the first academic analysis of Britpop. As well as music, Justin has written extensively about the pulp and paper, telecoms and internet industries and EU nature and environmental projects. He speaks a bit of French and Dutch, the clever sod. Justin lived in Manchester in 1990-91; his first gig of note was Happy Mondays and 808 State at the G-Mex Centre, March 1990.
